Intel XeSS is now available in Shadow of Tomb Raider and Death Stranding

Intel XeSS is finally here, and we already have two games supporting it. The first two titles to support Intel's upscaling technique are Death Stranding and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. There are even measurements of the latter running on the different XeSS modes using a Radeon RX 6800 XT.

With Intel XeSS SDK now available to game developers, we will soon see more games using the technology. For now, only Death Stranding and Shadow of the Tomb Raider support XeSS, but the list should soon grow with more titles.

The gains in Death Stranding haven't been documented yet, but CapFrameX already tried the upscaling technology on the latest Tomb Raider. To make things even more interesting, the test was run using an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, meaning XeSS used the DirectX12 HLSL model (DP4A instructions). According to RandomGaminginHD, modern Nvidia graphics cards like the GTX 1630 also support XeSS.

According to CapFrameX's data, the ultra quality mode brings a 13% improvement in average FPS over native resolution. On Quality mode, the FPS gains increased to 29%, and then to 43% in balanced mode. Lastly, in performance mode, the average FPS increased by 60%.

KitGuru says: Intel Arc cards should benefit more from XeSS thanks to XMX. Still, the gains are decent enough, at least from the FPS gain perspective. The only thing left to see is how image quality is affected in the different modes and how they compare against their FSR and DLSS equivalents.
