Intel fixes memory clock speed issues on Arc A770 16GB graphics cards

Recently, early Arc A770 16GB buyers found that their graphics card's memory wasn't running as fast as it should. While Intel announced these GPUs with 17.5Gbps memory speeds, customers found their memory running at 16Gbps instead, reducing maximum bandwidth down from 560GB/s to 512GB/s. Now, Intel has fixed the issue with a new driver update.

According to Bryce Furuya, Intel Arc Community advocate, the issue was “a gap” on Intel's side. The graphics driver team has already implemented changes to the validation process to avoid future mistakes like this.

In addition to fixing this memory issue, the new driver also brings optimisations for games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, Victoria 3, and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. The rest of the changelog can be found below:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man (DX12) may exhibit scene corruption when Ambient Occlusion is disabled or set to HBAO+.
  • Payday 2 (DX9) may exhibit texture corruption when aiming down sights.
  • Resident Evil Village (DX12) may exhibit colour corruption within the Heisenberg Factory area.
  • Age of Empire II & III: Definitive Edition (DX11) exhibits text corruption in the game menus.
  • Topaz Video Enhance AI is exhibiting lower-than-expected performance with the Intel Arc A380 series.

Intel Arc Control fixed issues:

  • Arc Control may fail to correctly update. A workaround is to uninstall Arc Control from Add or Remove programs before updating.
  • Using Arc Control Studio Capture with “In Stream” mode enabled may not correctly record the entire clip when under a 1080p resolution setting.

If you own an Intel Arc A770 graphics card and you've found that your memory is running slower than it should, download Intel Arc Graphics Driver 31.0.101.3793 to solve the issue.
