Crypto miners have now fully unlocked Nvidia’s RTX 30 LHR GPUs

Mining software developers have been trying to unlock the LHR GPUs since launch. Up to now, nobody had been able to fully unlock the LHR protections in place, but that has now changed with NiceHash.

The NiceHash developers have been continuously trying to unlock the LHR cards. Nine months ago, they were amongst the first to unlock 70% of the mining performance on LHR GPUs, but now, they have pushed that to 100%, making them the first to hit the milestone. Unfortunately, the team behind the mining software didn't explain how they achieved such advancement, likely to prevent others from stealing the method and implementing it into their miners.

The unlock is only available in QuickMiner v0.5.4.0 RC (release candidate). Most Nvidia RTX 30 series LHR models can run this miner, except for the RTX 3050 and the RTX 3080 12GB (LHRv3). Expected performance using the mining software with the 100% LHR unlock can be found below:

Model Expected performance
RTX 3060 LHR ~ 50 MH/s
RTX 3060 Ti LHR ~ 60 MH/s
RTX 3070 LHR ~ 60 MH/s
RTX 3070 Ti LHR ~ 81 MH/s
RTX 3080 10GB LHR ~ 98 MH/s
RTX 3080 Ti LHR ~ 120 MH/s

This tool only unlocks the Ethash algorithm. Other algorithm blocks are still enabled even when using the QuickMiner v0.5.4.0 RC. For now, the miner only works on Windows.

KitGuru says: With Ethereum likely moving away from GPU-based mining this year, this unlock may have arrived a little too late. With that in mind, GPU prices should continue to trend down, just as they have been for the last several months.
