AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT will reportedly be up to 13% faster than RX 6800 XT

AMD hasn't officially announced the Radeon RX 7800 series, but based on the rumoured specifications, it's possible to estimate how it will perform. In a test, Igor'sLab recently tweaked a Radeon Pro W7800 to create a close approximation of the RX 7800 XT based on its rumoured specs. 

Running this kind of experiment with a Radeon RX 7900 GPU is extremely difficult, as you would have to forcefully disable CUs and cap the memory pool. However, using a Radeon Pro W7800 makes this task a bit easier. Igor'sLab adjusted clock speeds and limited the VRAM pool to reach the expected specs of the upcoming RX 7800 GPU. The memory is overclocked from 18Gbps to 20Gbps and the VRAM pool was reduced to 16GB using memtestcl.

Potential differences in power consumption are also accounted for. Through some maths, Igor estimates that the RX 7800 XT will have a TBP of around 270 watts.

Benchmark tests of the simulated gaming card showed small performance advantages—4% at 1080p, 8% at 1440p, and 12.5% at 2160p—over the previous-generation Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU. He also compared it to mid-range offerings from Nvidia, stating that the RX 7800 XT would sit perfectly between the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4070 Ti.

KitGuru says: There isn't an RX 7800 XT-optimised driver yet and the specs are based on rumours, so take the performance information with a pinch of salt. We should see the RX 7800 XT officially later this year.
