Palit RTX 4070 Ti GameRock OC Review

With our third look at an RTX 4070 Ti graphics card, there is no doubt Palit has done another excellent job with the RTX 4070 Ti GameRock OC. There are, however, clear concerns with pricing around this new GPU that need to be addressed.

Starting with the positives though, the design of the GameRock OC is a significant part of its appeal, and personally I love it. It certainly won't be for everyone, but the flashy RGB and crystal-like diffusers are a real point of difference for the GameRock.

Additionally, Palit knows how to build an effective cooler, with noise-normalised performance up there with the other two 4070 Ti cards we've tested. That's also while running a touch faster than other models, averaging 2880MHz under our testing, with out of the box noise levels coming in nice and quiet, hitting 35dBa.

There's really very little to fault this card. It is certainly very large, something I have consistently pointed out with my 40-series reviews, but the same goes for basically every other card, so it's not like other manufacturers aren't doing the same thing.

One thing that is a significant point of contention however, is the pricing. In my launch day RTX 4070 Ti review, I wasn't effusive about the GPU's value based on the £799 MSRP, but nor was I overly critical. Since that review however, it's become clear that pricing is just way too high for the 4070 Ti as a whole. At the time of writing, Scan doesn't have a single model listed at £799, and OCUK only has one, and even that is a pre-order listing. Of the models that are currently in stock, the average selling price of an RTX 4070 Ti at Scan is £962, while it's only slightly lower at OCUK, with an average of £928 (correct as of 12th January.)

Palit did communicate to us that the GameRock OC's MSRP is £835, though it's not currently listed on line due to a shipping delay. However, considering the GamingPro OC is already listed at £899, clearly the GameRock OC will be over £900.

To be clear, this isn't a criticism of Palit, as 4070 Ti prices are far too high across the board. It's actually at the point where cost per frame is identical to the RTX 4080, something we slammed as being pretty poor value back in October, so it really makes no sense for the RTX 4070 Ti to be sold for this much. Some models are even listed at over £1000 which is frankly outrageous.

Ultimately, I still believe the 4070 Ti at £799 isn't a bad buy. It's not particularly amazing, but it's decent enough. The current pricing for this GPU as a whole is just far too high, and really makes no sense for the consumer.

We don't yet have a buy link for the RTX 4070 Ti GameRock OC but it is set to become available at Overclockers UK later this month.

Pros

  • Eye-catching design.
  • Fastest RTX 4070 Ti yet (though the margins are slim).
  • Quietest RTX 4070 Ti we've tested.
  • Dual-BIOS

Cons

  • RGB and overall design won't be for everyone.
  • RTX 4070 Ti pricing is way out of line.

KitGuru says: Palit's design here is fantastic, the card itself really does perform well across the board. RTX 4070 Ti prices are just far too high at the minute for the GPU to make any sense.
