Catalyst 10.8 driver details new ATI product names

Last night we published news on the release of Catalyst 10.8, which features many performance fixes. After looking at the atiicdxx.da_ file this morning we have seen a 35 new cards listed for support. It seems that Fudzilla also have a story up discussing this today.

Going on the information inside the file it appears that a total of 11 Cayman cards are going to be released and this should be the range to replace the ever popular HD5800 series. Offering 11 SKU's and 4 chips means that ATI have clearly presented a high level of focus on this particular range. After checking various sources we would assume that 9 of these are targeting the professional market.

Blackcomb and Barts have 4 listings each and Barts is aimed to replace the Juniper core. With an additional four Whistler cards as well as three cards based on the Turks core, the range looks to be already shaping up well – the Turks core should replace HD5600 series cards.

We are poking our contacts today to try and prise more information from them, as we get updates they will follow.

The full listing from the file is as follows:

  1. Cant help but notice the “NI” on the end of those names, which kinda hints at northern islands, and as far as i know this is southern islands… Whats up with that?

  2. Very interesting, clearly they aren’t hiding the info if its in the driver 🙂

  3. It is still confusing enough in the naming to keep us guessing.!
