2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs get big price cuts ahead of 3rd Gen launch

Whenever there is a big new tech launch, it is usually a good time to shop around a bit, whether you are interested in the latest and greatest or not. Those looking to upgrade on the cheap will be happy to hear that 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs have received some decent price cuts this week ahead of the looming 3rd Gen Ryzen launch on the 7th.

We will start at the top and work our way down through the sale currently going on at Overclockers UK. The Ryzen 7 2700X AMD50 Gold Edition is currently down from £299.99 to £269.99. Meanwhile the regular Ryzen 7 2700X is sitting at £259.99. The Ryzen 7 2700 is perhaps the biggest steal, with prices dropping all the way down to £188.99.

Similar price cuts have occurred for the mid-range and lower end CPUs too. The Ryzen 5 2600X is now £158.99 while the standard Ryzen 5 2600 is £128.99. On the APU side of things, the Ryzen 5 2400G with integrated VEGA graphics is now £128.99 and the Ryzen 3 2200G is £79.99.

If you are switching over from Intel, or upgrading from a previous generation AMD CPU, then you may also want a new motherboard. There are several of those on sale too, although the price cuts aren't quite as large. The Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming is now £129.95 down from £144.95, the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC is also down from £130 to £120. Of course, there are a ton of other options available too so it is worth having a browse if you fancy jumping on 2nd Gen Ryzen now that prices have lowered.

KitGuru Says: Even with 3rd Gen Ryzen coming up, the 2nd Gen processors are all still good performers and will be worth picking up for patient upgraders looking for a cheaper deal. Are any of you planning on upgrading your PC over the next few months?
