Qualcomm has reportedly begun testing Snapdragon X2 Elite processors

Since Qualcomm engineers completed the Snapdragon X Elite processor design for Windows-based client PCs, they've been working on something new. According to a recent report, Qualcomm has already received and is testing early silicon for their next-generation PC CPU, the Snapdragon X2 Elite. 

According to WinFuture' (via Tom's Hardware), the upcoming CPU generation (most likely to be named Qualcomm Snapdragon X2) is currently known as Project Glymur and has the product number SC8480XP. In comparison, the first-gen Snapdragon X was known as Hamoa and had the model number SC8380XP.

Testing of the SC8480XP reportedly began about two months ago at Qualcomm. The test platforms were supplied with testing housings, allowing the new processor to run with multiple 3D NAND and DRAM chips without hard soldering. Assuming this information is correct, Qualcomm's next-generation CPU is already well into development.

Technical specifications like core count and clock rates for the SC8480XP have yet to be released, and it should take some time before we know anything specific. Snapdragon X1 Elite was released just recently, so don't expect Qualcomm to speak about the next generation processor anytime soon.
