Leak claims AMD Ryzen 9 7950X will boost up to 5.85GHz

We've already seen the Intel Core i9-13900K hitting 5.7GHz, and reports claim it can even reach 5.8GHz. That won't be enough to take the clock speed crown away from AMD, however, as it is claimed that the Ryzen 9 7950X will boost over 5.8GHz. Those looking to tinker further with settings and overclocking may even manage to reach 6GHz.

Leaker HXL shared a Weibo post claiming the Ryzen 9 7950X will boost up to 5.7GHz at stock settings. However, enabling PBO/XFR, the chip will reportedly go up to 5.85GHz (Fmax), making it the highest available clock speed for any TSMC N5-based product up to now. Assuming you can increase the Fmax offset as we did in older Ryzen chips, it wouldn't be surprising to see plenty of overclocked CPUs breaking the 6GHz barrier.

The same leaker also shared a screenshot of the chip running CPU-Z, showing the processor will feature 16 cores. Unfortunately, the software still doesn't support the Ryzen 7000 series, hence why the clock speed shown is only 4.85GHz.

AMD will reveal the Ryzen 7000 series later today, so we'll have official details on specs, new features and hopefully pricing and availability too.

KitGuru says: As always, clock speeds are just a small part of a complex equation that determines the performance of a processor, so while 5.8GHz boost speeds and 6GHz overclocks sound great, there are other factors we'll have to pay attention to.
