Updated: Intel Meteor Lake will be coming to desktop after all

UPDATE: There has been an update to this story. As it turns out, Meteor Lake is not coming to desktops, at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, Meteor Lake chips will be made available to OEMs to use in desktop form-factor systems like all-in-one PCs. You can find our updated article, HERE

Previous leaks indicated that Intel's upcoming Meteor Lake architecture would not be making its way to desktop processors. However, in a recent interview, the company has set the record straight, confirming that Meteor Lake chips for desktops will arrive in 2024.

At Intel Innovation 2023, Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive VP and GM of the Client Computing group at Intel, confirmed to PCWorld that Meteor Lake desktop processors are still on the roadmap, with plans to launch in 2024, putting to rest rumours that the desktop release had been cancelled.

While Meteor Lake will be arriving for desktop in 2024, the architecture will debut later this year with the launch of the first Intel Core Ultra processors for laptops. These chips are due to arrive on December 14th but the desktop launch date is still unknown.

Regardless of when Meteor Lake for desktops will be available, it begs the issue of whether it will debut in early Q1 with the Raptor Lake Refresh 65W CPUs or whether it will arrive later, closer to the rumoured Arrow Lake-S platform. Furthermore, both goods might be featured in the same product portfolio, or, as previously anticipated, Arrow Lake could be planned for the 2nd Gen Ultra series with a possible later release.

KitGuru says: If the rumours are true, Intel might produce three desktop series in a single year: Raptor Lake Refresh (65W components), Meteor Lake-S, and Arrow Lake-S. However, it's worth mentioning that the veracity of these rumours, particularly about the Arrow Lake launch in 2024, is uncertain.
