Intel Core i9-14900KS appears in the wild

Rumours have been circulating for months about a possible Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU, but up to now, there have been no real leaks about it. Although it's unclear if it's legit and not photoshopped, a picture of what seems to be a sample of the rumoured i9-14900KS has just appeared online.

The picture shared by HXL (acquired from a QQ chat group) shows the CPU name but has a black square covering the S-Spec code. However, upon closer inspection, a QR code is visible on the top right parts of the CPU's PCB. With that QR code, Intel should be able to trace the CPU back to its owner. Still, it isn't easy to verify the authenticity of this sample without the S-SPEC code.

The i9-14900KS is rumoured to be a pre-binned 14900K with a maximum P-Core boost of up to 6.2GHz, making it the first processor to hit this mark out of the box. This CPU would also have a higher TDP of 150W as compared to the K-series' usual 125W.

All LGA1700 KS-CPUs were initially priced higher than their “K” counterpart. The Core i9-14900KS will most likely follow that trend. In addition, it is worth noting that previous KS models were released in Q1, so we wouldn't be surprised if a new KS CPU was released this quarter.

KitGuru says: If you just want an Intel CPU for gaming, do you think it's worth spending the extra on an i9 KS CPU instead of getting the equivalent i9 “K” model?
