Intel's upcoming Core Ultra 200U series has taken an unexpected turn. New leaks suggest that instead of adopting the Lion Cove and Skymont core architectures of the desktop and other mobile parts, these chips will feature a tweaked version of the current Meteor Lake architecture.
Leaker Jaykhin has spilt the beans on the upcoming Core Ultra 200U lineup, revealing four SKUs: the 265U, 255U, 235U, and 225U. While the core configuration remains the same as the current generation (2x P-cores, 8x E-cores, and 2x Low-Power E-cores), there are some notable changes under the hood.
Instead of a completely new architecture, the refreshed 200U series will utilise “Redwood Cove+” P-cores and “Crestmont Enhanced” E-cores. This suggests architectural refinements that could deliver a performance boost over the existing Meteor Lake chips. Additionally, the new chips are rumoured to be manufactured on the Intel 3 process node, potentially bringing improved power efficiency to the table.
The leaked specs point to significant clock speed increases across the board. We're talking up to 500 MHz higher turbo clocks and faster base clocks compared to the current 200U series. The integrated graphics, while still based on the Xe-LPG architecture, were also improved, with a 100-150 MHz bump in clock speed. The Intel Core Ultra 200U series is expected to debut in early 2025 alongside the other Arrow Lake mobile parts (Arrow Lake-H/HX) and Raptor Lake-H Refresh.
