Dell laptop leak reveals six new Alder Lake-HX CPUs

Some early Alder Lake rumours mentioned Intel would release Alder Lake-HX chips with a 55W TDP. Up to now, Intel hasn't announced these processors officially, but a recent Dell leak may have revealed not only their existence, but key specs too.

The marketing slides were meant to showcase the new Dell Precision 7770 and 7670 workstation laptops, which will feature Intel's yet-to-be announced 12th Gen HX series CPUs. The presentation was sent to ITHome, revealing the new 55W Alder Lake Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 processors, which should feature Xe-based iGPUs as well.

We had already heard about various i5, i7 and i9 HX chips, but details are still scarce. Fortunately, the marketing material for the new Dell Precision laptops gives us some brief specifications of the new HX CPUs. These CPUs are detailed in the table below:

Name Cores/Threads Maximum clock speed VPro
Core i5-12600HX 12/16 4.6GHz Yes
Core i7-12800HX 16/24 4.8GHz No
Core i7-12850HX 16/24 4.8GHz Yes
Core i9-12900HX 16/24 5.0GHz No
Core i9-12950HX 16/24 5.0GHz Yes

The Core i5-12650HX found on a benchmark database isn't listed in the spec sheet, leading us to believe it may release a bit later or has been scrapped altogether. Intel has made no official announcement yet, but rumours are pointing towards a May launch for new Alder Lake laptop chips.

KitGuru says: The higher TDP of these chips should result in higher sustained clock frequencies. Consequently, temperatures should also increase, so we expect OEMs to pack appropriate cooling solutions to handle the extra heat.
