The range will kick off with a pair of Athlons and a Sempron.
To be honest, we're not sure why a company the size of AMD would want to get into such granularity with their branding, but it seems to have something to do with ‘Not wanting Athlon to be the most entry level product'.
From a system builder's point of view, the exciting part here is that AMD can now offer you a quad core processor for less than $40. Using KitGuru's experience of the market, that means a barebones system would be possible for around £150 in the shops – and one complete with OS for less than £200 is also looking possible.
Will the comparisons to Intel be 100% accurate? Possibly not once the new products announced in China last week begin to filter through, but – for now – it seems that AMD has a price advantage.
So will it be supported by the mainboard industry?
In the Holy Trinity of Price, Performance and Availability, the next thing we need to look at is performance.
