The Aegir box is designed in typical Xigmatek fashion, with a fantasy character taking graphic centerstage. There is a clear window on the right which highlights the new D.L.H.D.T. (Double Layer with Heat Pipe Direct Touch) design.
The bundle is comprehensive, with manual, backplate and accessories box – containing all mounting peripherals needed for both Intel and AMD system builds. The 120mm fan is a PLA12025S12M-4 PWM model which takes 0.31A at 12 volts. This fan is rated to deliver up to 89.45 cfm output while operating within 1,000-2,200 rpm.
Accessories cover both mounting brackets for AMD and Intel platforms as well as various screws, washers and even a tube of thermal paste. The backplate supports both AMD and Intel solutions (you just remove a cover in the middle to mount for Intel).
The Aegir is an attractive heatsink and is finished to a very high standard which we would associate with Xigmatek as a rule of thumb anyway.
The Aegir has an unusual heatpipe configuration as can be seen in the images above. It features two levels of stacked heat pipe rods of mixed sizes on the HDT base. This design is actually rather clever and should ensure very good cooling proficiency. The top bridge piece is a solid chunk of aluminum and forces the heatsink on top of the processor while helping to move the heat between the pipes.
Well I think I got my next cooler. looks awesome.
Pat on the back for Xigmatek. About time someone changed the mounting system for mainstream coolers as they are woefull INADEQUATE ! they deserve a lot of attention for this.
Thanks for focusing on the installation method, other reviews ive read ignored it, and to me it seems the biggest selling point (as it really works!).
I have been trying to buy this for weeks now, any ideas when it will be available in UK ?
That mounting procedure looks long winded, but its very clever. I guess its impotrant how much pressure is applied to the CPU for maximum cooling, right?
Finally a company who dont have their head up their ass. I have been unimpressed with thermaltakes coolers. Frio isn;t bad, but at anything above minimum its a whirlwind of noise.
This cooler looks to be very well though out and instead of aiming for sheer mass (like noctua NH D14), they have concentrated on getting the cpu block as good as possible, and as close as possible. This is a stunning product and they will get my money. great review.
ingenious mounting method, looks very substantial. ill pick one of these up after christmas for my new mobo.
ill order one of these when I can find it.
I have one of their older coolers andi t was great, ill upgrade nearer christmas to this.
Excellent, I also like the fact it isnt too big and doesnt end up blocking half the motherboard.
