Noctua finally introduces all black versions of their high-end air coolers

Noctua has introduced the long-awaited all-black versions of its CPU coolers. The legendary NH-D15, NH-U12S and the NH-L9i all getting a makeover along with new chromax.black fans.

Staying close to its successful formula, Noctua has taken its signature quiet cooling performance and introduced an all-black coating to the heatsinks and black fans in the updated chromax.black range of CPU coolers, giving them a mean stealthy look while still offering the excellent cooling performance.

For a limited time, the chromax.black NH-D15 and NH-U12S will be exclusively available in a Linus Tech Tips edition, that includes extra orange anti-vibration pads and custom fan stickers. The addition of the chromax.black range will please consumers who have been asking Noctua to ditch the tan and brown fans for a more aesthetically pleasing design, that will integrate into systems better.

Noctua said the reason it took so long to bring the black versions to market was due to them needing to be able to guarantee the coating would not hinder performance. “We’re soldering the fins to the heat pipes in order to guarantee optimal performance over many years of usage and this production process is difficult to combine with coatings,” explains Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO). A lot of time has been spent finding the appropriate coating material and process to give Noctua satisfactory thermal performance.

The new chromax.black versions are identical to the original models, except for the black heatsinks, black fans and anti-vibration pads, black fan clips or fan screws. They are literally black from top to bottom.

In addition to the new range of chromax.black CPU coolers, Noctua has also introduced the new NA-SAVP3 anti-vibration pads which are available in six colours, including black, blue, green, red, white and yellow. The new anti-vibration pads are compatible with NF-A15 series and will offer users the ability to customise the fans to suit their system colour scheme.

The chromax.black NH-D15 and NH-U12S are available as of today via Noctua’s official Amazon and eBay stores. The first 5000 pieces of each model shipped worldwide will be the Linus Tech Tips limited edition that includes extra orange vibration pads. The chromax.black NH-D15 is available for £89.99 and the NH-U12 is £64.99

KitGuru says: Noctua fans will be very happy with this news. An aesthetically pleasing version of the NH-D15 is something system builders have been looking forward too for a long time. Personally I can't wait to try one out.
