Overall we are left with generally positive impressions of the Silverstone Temjin TJ04-E Evolution case. It has a very sleek aesthetic design which will fit in well in both home and office environments.
There is also a variant available with a side-panel should you want to show off all the components inside the case.
As we've come to expect from SilverStone, the build quality of the case is of the highest standard. Even though the main chassis of the case is constructed from Steel, the feeling of quality is on a par with the best cases we have tested over the years.
We are a little underwhelmed by the internal design. It was quite clear when installing our test system into the TJ04-E that it is a refreshed version of an old model. There is basically no provision made for tool-less installation as both hard drives and solid state drives have to be screwed into place. The most annoying part of the interior design is the 2.5 inch drive rack which gets in the way during installation and really needs to be removed beforehand.
The case does offer good airflow, however, and there are plenty of unpopulated fan mounting points should you want to improve it further. The fans SilverStone include are very quiet which makes it easy to build an almost silent system.
At present, the SilverStone Temjin TJ04-E is only available from a couple of etailers in the UK. We feel that the price of around £130 from Scan is a little expensive compared to what is on offer from other manufacturers. The Corsair Obsidian 650D offers a much simpler installation process and has a superior internal layout. This said, the TJ04-E is better looking on the outside and is still a great option if you're in the market for a high-end mid-tower case.
Pros:
- Beautiful appearance.
- build quality is flawless.
- decent airflow.
- quiet.
Cons:
- Internally it is based around an old design, just refreshed.
- facing stiff competition.
KitGuru says: A good option if you're looking for a beautiful mid-tower case to house your system.
I have the older version of this case and I think a few changes are worth making. That said, I think they could have done a little more to make it tool less and perhaps adapt the front bay area to slide in and out with a single screw. Lian Li do this and its simple. one screw, easily accessable by finger. remove. slide out. back in again.
It is rather expensive in the UK< I think in the USA it would work out around £85 which seems more reasonable. One of the joys of living in the UK. so I hear.
I wish more of these companies would put a little handle on the top of the case to move around, makes life so much easier. WOuld have worked well with this case.
