Braven release BRV-1 ‘battle ready’ portable speakers

The new Braven BRV-1 speakers look like something Judge Dredd would attach to his motorbike. The hint is in the naming as ‘BRV' stands for ‘Battle Ready Vehicle'.

These speakers are Bluetooth capable designed to work in tough environments, with bullets wizzing past your head. The BRV-1 are equipped with a rubberised, shock absorbent case and IXP5 water resistance rating.

The speakers have been showcased in public, with water poured onto the grille while they were active. These speakers were shown at the CES show in Vegas earlier this month.

The company suggest that action sports participants and even those who are into water sports will make use of the BRV-1. They say “The BRV-1 gives action sports and outdoor enthusiasts 12 hours of music they can bring into the backcountry, rock faces, skate parks, virgin powder downhills, rafting rapids, or even the beach.”

The speakers have a built in noise cancelling microphone, doubling up as a speakerphone. They can also charge up a phone via a USB port, ideal for on the move support. On the fascia is a line input and a set of volume, playback controls and battery check options.

They measure 12.7 x 8.3 x 5.7 cm and weigh 346g. Power Output is rated at 6 watts. No UK pricing announced yet, but they will be available in a few weeks time for $180 in America.
