Humble Bundle does comedy now too

Opie and Anthony fans rejoice, comedy fans listen up, Humble Bundler's get your wallets out: it's comedy time. That's right, not content with making over $10 million for charity with EA's Humble Origin Bundle just yesterday, the guys at Humble Bundle have already launched another, this time offering the comedy stylings of some of the latest and greatest comedians from across the pond.

As usual, there's the beat-the-average barrier to contend with, but you can get a fair few standup specials for as little as $1, since this is as usual, a pay what you want model. Contributing just a buck will net you Maria Bamford's The Special Special Special, standup special, along with an audio recording of Tig Notaro's famous “Live” standup set. This one you might remember was hosted on Louis CK's website for a while, as he championed her bravery and humour, for taking to the stage mere hours after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Other standups included in the bundle, regardless of what you pay are Hannibal Buress, with his “My Name is Hannibal” audio special, and Jim Norton's recent televised special, Please be Offended. [yframe url='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA_DXlFDQ7g']

As usual, paying above the average will get you a little more though. The internet's favourite, Louis CK makes an appearance, with his Live at the Beacon Theatre set which comes in audio and video firm, for the discerning comedy fan.

Finally though, is Patrice O'Neal, who comes in audio form only (I'm expecting them to add his Elephant in the Room special further along in the bundle) as part of an Unreleased series of standup bits and his Mr P album, which was released shortly after his death in late 2011.

As usual a portion of the sales will go to charity, this time split between the usual two: the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Child's Play. The bundle is also DRM free and offers streaming versions of each reward, as well as accessible download links for those that want permanent local copies.

At the time of writing there's just over 13 days left in the bundle, with 15,000 purchases so far leading to a payment total of $136,000.  While this bundle looks unlikely to set the world on fire in the way that the latest Humble Bundle did – breaking all records in the process – what's interesting about this comedy bundle is the average purchase price. Often this hovers around the $4-5 mark, but this time around, it's already at $8.71.

I guess people value comedy a bit higher than they do games or books. If you want to continue that trend, you can contribute to the bundle's total here.

KitGuru Says: Having listened/watched most of the specials being offered here, I can highly recommend them to any comedy fans. Louis CK and Patrice O' Neals stuff is especially fantastic and listening to Tig Notaro's special is a lesson in laughter and humility.
