MSI CES 2025 preview – new PCs and monitors

CES begins in just a few days time, but MSI has getting in on the action early. We covered their new generation of QD-OLED gaming monitors yesterday. Now, our attention turns to Smart Monitors with Google TV functionality, as well as new compact PCs.

While most of us are used to having a software interface on our TVs, along with a selection of streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube, there aren't as many monitors on the market offering the same functionality. That has been slowly changing in recent years with ‘Smart Monitors' hitting the market, MSI is now expanding into this area with its new Modern MD272UPSW display, which integrates a 27-inch 4K display with Google TV functionality. Users can stream content from apps like Netflix directly on the monitor, controlled via remote or smartphone. Dolby Audio speakers, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, and LAN connectivity enhance its versatility, making it a convenient choice for both work and entertainment. We’re not sure about the target market for this product.

On the PC side, MSI has a few new systems hitting the market, most focusing on the small form factor segment, with compact PCs that can easily fit into a small office environment:

MSI Cubi NUC AI Series:
The Cubi NUC AI series combines ultra-compact design with powerful performance. Equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors, these PCs support AI-enhanced productivity through Microsoft Copilot+. The AI+ model includes biometric login, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity and support for up to four displays – which could be useful for multitasking professionals.

MSI Pro DP80 AI:
For more demanding users, the Pro DP80 AI integrates Nvidia RTX GPUs with Intel processors. It supports multiple displays and offers advanced connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 7 and dual LAN ports. MSI’s Power Meter software provides insights into energy consumption – if you’re the kind of person who likes tracking that sort of thing.

Flagship Systems: MEG Vision X AI
At the high-performance end of the spectrum, the MEG Vision X AI combines higher-spec hardware with a 13” front-facing touchscreen for enhanced control. Powered by Intel Core Ultra processors and nVidia RTX GPUs, it looks to handle demanding tasks like video editing and gaming with ease. MSI’s Silent Storm Cooling AI ensures optimal performance with minimal noise, while the integrated touchscreen allows users to manage apps and system settings intuitively.

Enhancing User Experience with AI
AI integration remains a focal point for all hardware companies – and MSI is no exception. Features like AI Navigator for optimised screen settings, AI Crosshair for gaming precision and AI Vision for intelligent adjustments – could help to enhance your experience across the various monitor and PC ranges. The MEG Vision X AI’s touchscreen interface allows intuitive control over system performance, while Silent Storm Cooling AI dynamically manages thermal efficiency. The claims will need to be tested, but the promise is appealing.

KitGuru Says: We'll have boots on the ground at CES next week, so stay tuned for a closer look at all the new tech coming our way in 2025.
