Asus officially announces the ZenWatch

Asus has officially announced its ZenWatch, the new wearable will be powered by Android Wear and feature a custom user interface that Asus developed specifically for the new device.

The smartwatch will pair up with any smartphone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or higher in order to provide useful notifications and serve as a “personal wellness manager in conjunction with the ASUS ZenUI Wellness app.”

The ZenWatch has been designed with comfort in mind, while also paying close attention to the design. The screen itself is protected by curved glass while the strap is made of leather.

The inside of the watch is similar to other Android Wear offerings on the market, packing in a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 system on chip, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a microphone and a heart rate sensor.

Asus claims that its heart rate sensor will monitor relaxation and stress levels using its built in wellness app, the app will also supply tips on how to reduce stress. In addition, it will count the amount of steps you have taken throughout the day and tell you how many calories you've burned, activity duration, exercise intensity and heart rate.

The Asus ZenWatch is expected to release at the £199 price point sometime before Christmas.
