Insomnia 56 was never going to be a massive gaming festival like its summer counterparts tend to be. However the move to the NEC has done the iSeries a lot of good. Parking is easier – though getting a PC inside can't be easy – and the facilities are vastly better than the problematic Ricoh Arena where they've been held for the past few years.
Gamer Fuel offers caffeinated and non-caffeinated packs to your door, much like a Graze box.
Yes the show does still have quite a strong sales focus, which feels like it's ramping up a little more since GAME purchased Multiplay, but there is still lots of interesting games and hardware on show. At smaller shows like this too, you can visit without expecting to wait for hours queuing for everything.
Battleborn was the biggest one we waited in and even then it was only 20 minutes.
There's all the room they'll ever need to expand too.
Based on the performance of staff and the much improved layout and facilities available, we wouldn't be surprised if the LAN parties get much better next year. With the big improvements the NEC brings over previous venues, we're quite excited to see what the next iSeries events hold.
If it involves more from the Custom Cupcake Company, we're sold.
