Dotcom and the gang have been arrested some time ago and are currently facing charges in New Zealand. The American Federal Government want to intervene however and it was confirmed by a Crown Law spokeswoman that the papers have been filed in the North Shore District Court.
If he is extradited to America, he could face charges relating to racketeering, money laundering and copyright violations. A hearing is said to be scheduled in August.
The Megaupload website has been accused of causing revenue losses to the music and film industry of more than half a billion dollars.
Kitguru says: Finn Batato, Mathias Ortmann and Bram van der Kolk also face charges as they have been closely associated with Dotcom and Megaupload.
