Flame virus hits Iranian oil industry

We reported a few days ago that Kaspersky had discovered a new virus nicknamed the ‘Flame', which has been in operation since 2010. They said it has been collecting private data from countries such as Israel and Iran. Kaspersky indicated that the code was so sophisticated that they suspected it was state sponsored.

The latest news suggests that the virus briefly hit the Iran oil industry. Gholam Reza Jalali, the head of an Iranian military unit in charge of battling sabotage said yesterday that Iranian experts had found the code and defeated it.

He spoke on state radio to say that the oil industry was the only governmental body which was affected and that all problems had now been resolved.

Kitguru says: We expect to hear more about the Flame virus code.
