3rd-party game launchers are the bane of many PC players, with these unnecessary additions contributing to a variety of potential issues. Fortunately, some publishers seem to be waking up to this fact – with 2K now removing their own launcher from all of their titles across both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Having now gone live, 2K detailed the recent change to all their games across both Steam and EGS, saying “the 2K Launcher has been removed from every game that used it on Epic and Steam. Additionally, we also removed the ‘2K Launcher Beta’, a completely separate launcher, from Sid Meier’s Civilization V.”
Full details on exactly how this will affect the publisher’s different games can be found HERE, but it is safe to say that this latest move is a highly welcome one.
2K’s launcher was a particular sore point for some players, as in some instances it was added to much older games through a surprise post-launch patch.
As such, its removal is a relief to see, and if nothing else should make it much easier for these games to be preserved in the long run. Hopefully other publishers follow suit (as unlikely as that may be).
