Microsoft launches Edge Game Assist browser within Game Bar

Microsoft is bringing Edge to your gaming sessions with the new Game Assist feature, now available in beta for Windows 11. This handy in-game browser overlay, accessible through the Microsoft Game Bar, provides quick access to walkthroughs, tips, and other helpful information without alt-tabbing out of your game.

Game Assist is designed to be “game-aware”, meaning it can automatically detect the game you're playing and surface relevant information from the web. Currently, this feature only supports Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo IV, and Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, but Microsoft plans to expand support for more games during the beta and afterwards.

The overlay leverages your existing Edge profile, so you can access your bookmarks, autofill data, and browsing history without having to log in again. To get started with Game Assist, you'll need to be running Windows 11 with the latest Game Bar update and have Microsoft Edge Beta 132 installed as your default browser. Once you've opted into the preview, you can enable Game Assist within Edge's settings.

Currently, Game Assist only supports mouse and keyboard input, but Microsoft plans to add support for gamepads and handhelds in the future. Compact Mode compatibility is also on the roadmap.

KitGuru says: While still in beta, Game Assist shows promise as a useful tool for gamers who want quick access to information without interrupting their gameplay. It's another example of how Microsoft is integrating its services to enhance gaming on Windows 11.
