Take-Two CEO downplays Xbox Series S performance concerns ahead of GTA 6

There is no getting around it, the Xbox Series S is the weakest console of the current generation, offering a fraction of the horsepower available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This has led to some developers needing extra time to get new-gen games running on the system and in some cases, it has led to delays for Xbox versions of certain titles, like Baldur's Gate 3.

Due to situations like that, some fans have raised concerns over Rockstar's next game, Grand Theft Auto 6, and its viability on the Xbox Series S console. However, Take-Two chairman and CEO, Strauss Zelnick, says there is no cause for alarm.

During Take-Two's earnings call last week, the Rockstar parent company was asked about GTA 6 and the Xbox Series S. Zelnick responded by saying: “We support the platforms where the consumers are for as long as they’re there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech”.

Zelnick expanded further, saying that he's “never worried” about hardware, as it is something he has zero control over as a software company.

For what it is worth, anyone worried about GTA 6 on an Xbox Series S should really go back and try playing Grand Theft Auto 5 on a PS3 or Xbox 360. That game was a technical marvel at the time and it just goes to show how much Rockstar can do, even when hardware is on the weaker side. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Xbox One was also an impressive technical feat.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Rockstar will get Grand Theft Auto 6 running perfectly fine on an Xbox Series S, albeit at 30FPS. At this point, I'm not even sure if we'll get 60FPS options for the game on the higher-end consoles, like the PS5 and Series X, although the new PS5 Pro should be able to manage it.
