Nintendo confirmed plans to announce its next generation console earlier in 2024. Aside from a few leaks, we've had little in the way of official news since. However, Nintendo has reiterated its plans in its latest earnings call.
Investors are keen to know more about the launch timing for Nintendo's next console and while the company isn't revealing anything too specific yet, President Shuntaro Furukawa has said that the reveal will come this fiscal year. That would mean that the console will be announced by the end of March 2025.
Questions about Nintendo's next console arose after the company lowered its Switch sales forecast, seeing a 31 percent decline year-on-year. Still, the Switch has done very well over time, surpassing 146 million lifetime sales.
Nintendo's next console is expected to be an “evolution” of the current Switch with a more powerful Nvidia-based SoC, along with support for modern 4K displays, and backwards compatibility with Switch titles. The system is often referred to as the ‘Switch 2' by fans but it is unclear what name Nintendo has in mind.
KitGuru Says: While the reveal is planned by the end of this fiscal year, the Switch 2 is not expected to hit store shelves until later on in 2025.
