Microsoft CEO shares mixed messaging on Xbox exclusives

For the longest time, it seemed as though Xbox and Microsoft operated somewhat independently of one another, with the recent spree of costly acquisitions bringing new light to the console subdivision in the eyes of Microsoft. Further evidence of this disorganisation has now come from the CEO of Microsoft himself – Satya Nadella – who recently shared some very mixed messaging on Xbox’s exclusive strategy.

As part of Microsoft’s annual report, CEO Satya Nadella spoke on the company’s gaming division, i.e. Xbox, claiming that:

“Growth of our Gaming business is determined by the overall active user base through Xbox enabled content, availability of games, providing exclusive game content that gamers seek, the computational power and reliability of the devices used to access our content and services, and the ability to create new experiences.”

Of course, the most notable part of this statement is where Nadella claims that “providing exclusive game content that gamers seek” remains a core part of its gaming business growth.

Given the fact that Xbox has been bringing an increasing number of exclusives to other platforms (with even more on the way), this statement comes off as a bit disconnected. Hopefully this messaging is properly cleared up once again.
