There won’t be a sequel to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Ubisoft catches a lot of criticism for its AAA games for a variety of warranted reasons, but the publisher also doesn't get as much credit as it should for some of its smaller titles. One such recent example was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was a fantastic metroidvania, but due to its niche genre, the game did not achieve sales success.

According to French YouTuber, Gautoz, the Lost Crown team at Ubisoft Montepellier has disbanded. Ubisoft later confirmed to Eurogamer in a statement that as the title's post-launch content had come to an end, most of the team had been shifted around to other projects.

Unfortunately, this likely means there won't be a sequel to give Prince of Persia to cement itself as a major franchise for Metroidvania games. With Nintendo's next console just around the corner, that seems like a missed opportunity considering the praise the original game received.

Ubisoft has been undergoing an internal review and has been taking cost-cutting measures due to lower-than-expected sales from its latest game releases, leading to tumbling share prices. Last month, it was reported that Ubisoft might be exploring a buyout from Tencent.

KitGuru Says: The Lost Crown only just landed on Steam recently, opening the game up to a huge market of Steam Deck owners. Given a bit more time, or better yet, Steam availability at launch, the game may have performed much better on PC.
