Epic winds down support for Rocket Racing less than a year after launch

Back at the tailend of last year, Epic Games officially announced a massive expansion to Fortnite, turning the BR title into a fully-fledged platform with multiple new games including Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing. Unfortunately, it seems the latter has failed to garner a massive audience, as Epic is already ending support for the game mode.

Publishing the latest patch notes for Rocket Racing v31.40, the team at Psyonix revealed that the game mode is winding down its post-launch support less than a year from its launch, saying:

“v31.40 brings the theme back to the starting line as we say goodbye to Inferno Island and themed updates. Future updates will be taking new roads with refreshed Ranked periods, renewed Quests, and additional Car items you can take to the track!”

So, while the game mode isn’t going away any time soon, it seems as though Epic will be relying on user-created content to keep the mode trucking along.

This announcement comes as a big disappointment, not because of Rocket Racing itself, but how its release impacted Psyonix’s highly-popular Rocket League – whose trading system was removed due to its integration with Fortnite.

Hopefully Epic Games will allow Psyonix to shift its full focus to Rocket League from this point on, though we will have to wait and see.
