The Tomb Raider series has sold over 100 million copies

2024 marks the 28th anniversary of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – the beginning of what would become an iconic muti-media franchise. As part of the celebrations, it’s been announced that in these 3 decades, the series has managed to sell over 100 million copies.

Making the announcement on a blog post (in which they also unveiled Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered), the team at Crystal Dynamics revealed that since the 1996 original, “we have officially reached over 100 million games sold across the franchise! This is a momentous accomplishment that few video game franchises ever achieve.”

They continued, “We owe our thanks to you, the fans, as well as to all the passionate developers and artists whose talent and imagination have given us so many stories and experiences to share together for nearly three decades. We’re extremely grateful for the Tomb Raider community’s collective spirit of adventure, and we look forward to all the journeys still to come as Lara Croft and Tomb Raider continue to reach new heights.”

While she will forever remain iconic, Lara Croft has been in a bit of a lull in recent years, with the last major video game release being 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

That said, reports have claimed that a new Tomb Raider game is in development at Crystal Dynamics with support from a newly-created Amazon studio – and so we will have to wait and see what is next for Lara.
