The Splinter Cell Remake is alive and well

It has been a few years since Ubisoft first announced plans for a Splinter Cell remake. Due to the company's issues with cancelled projects and dwindling sales, fans have been wondering if Sam Fisher will return to our screens after all. Fortunately, the game is still in development.

Sources speaking with Insider Gaming confirm that the Splinter Cell remake has not been quietly cancelled. The project is being actively worked on and in a first for the series, the new game is not being developed with Unreal Engine. Instead, Ubisoft has opted to utilise its own Snowdrop engine, which powered games like The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

The Splinter Cell Remake was first announced back in 2021, just as the industry was beginning to bounce back from the chaos of the pandemic. Unfortunately, since then we've had very little in the way of official news.

With all of that said, the sources familiar with the project did say that the game could arrive in 2026, but that timeframe is still up in the air for now. Splinter Cell fans will have to keep their fingers crossed that development remains smooth throughout 2025. Hopefully the game doesn't get lost in the shuffle, as Ubisoft is going through some internal changes at the moment and could soon be in the hands of new owners.

KitGuru Says: I've been a Splinter Cell fan for almost as long as I've been playing videogames. A return to this stealth-action series would be very welcome. It is my hope that this remake will kickstart a reboot of the franchise, with more games planned afterwards.
