Intel Core Ultra 285K tops PassMark single-thread ranking

Intel is expected to announce its new desktop CPU series, the Core Ultra 200, in just a few days. Although they haven't been released yet, and Intel hasn't yet shared any official benchmarks, engineering and qualifying samples seem to be already in the hands of some users, leading to some early performance numbers.

The official PassMark X account shared the new single-thread performance ranking of the benchmark, with the upcoming Core Ultra 9 processor sitting at the top with a whopping 5,268 points. With this score, the Core Ultra 9 processors outperform the i9-14900K by 11%.

The upcoming CPU will feature Lion Cove P-Cores and Skymont E-Cores, with sources indicating that it will boast 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, mirroring its predecessor. However, unlike the last-generation flagship, this one won't feature HyperThreading. As such, it's only expected that multi-thread performance would be inferior, as seen by the 22% drop in the score (from 60,305 to 46,872). These scores also suggest Intel's new series will beat AMD's top Ryzen 9 9950X CPU by 11% in single-thread performance but lose by 30% in multi-threaded performance.

The source of these scores is unclear, but it has been suggested that it could come from a “pre-release engineering sample,” as it's usual to see just before the launch of a new CPU series. Unfortunately, the other Core Ultra K-series CPUs have not yet been added to PassMark's database.
