Starfield: Shattered Space launches to middling reviews

Just over a year ago, Bethesda Games Studios released Starfield – a ‘big space game’ which had been ruminating in Todd Howard’s mind for over 25 years. Despite its grand ambitions, the title saw a mixed reaction from fans, though positive critic reviews. Unfortunately, it seems as though Starfield’s first expansion ‘Shattered Space’ has failed to impress players on both sides.

With Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion finally out and available to all, we have started to see reviews for the surprisingly short DLC begin to go live.

With a Metacritic score of just 54 and an OpenCritic rating of 52, Starfield: Shattered Space falls far below the threshold set by the base game – which managed an 83 and 85 respectively.

Of course, as it is an expansion, the DLC will ultimately receive far fewer reviews than the base game, and so the score comparisons aren’t 1:1.

That said, those who have played the expansion have come out disappointed, with the publication Pure Xbox calling it “a big disappointment in almost every way” and the Guardian stating that the hand-crafted map “rarely rewards inquisitiveness with anything other than wasted time and the urge to swear.”

It will be interesting to see what the consensus is as more people play through Shattered Space, but if the early reception is anything to go by, Bethesda might want to quickly move on to The Elder Scrolls 6 instead.
