Work on Haunted Chocolatier halted as dev focuses on Stardew Valley

Back in late 2021, ConcernedApe, the main developer behind Stardew Valley, announced that he was working on a new game: Haunted Chocolatier. Since then, development on both it and Stardew Valley appeared to be occurring concurrently – though ConcernedApe has now revealed that he has “not touched Haunted Chocolatier in a long time.”

In the years since the initial announcement of Haunted Chocolatier, ConcernedApe has continued to update Stardew Valley with pretty major additions, including the massive 1.5 update as well as the more recently-released patch 1.6 for PC.

With work continuing on bringing update 1.6 to the game’s mobile and console ports, ConcernedApe revealed via Twitter that:

“I have not touched Haunted Chocolatier in a long time because I am committed to finalizing Stardew 1.6 first. To those who are frustrated or even agnry [sic] about the timeline, I understand and accept full responsibility. To those who are patient and understanding, thank you, you make life better and reduce stress, and I appreciate it. BAck to work.”

For the uninitiated, ConcernedApe is a primarily solo developer, and so it is understandable that working on two games simultaneously is tough to balance.

That said, with Stardew Valley selling over 30 million copies since launch, it makes sense that ConcernedApe would want to focus on their pre-existing playerbase.
