Techland returns to its roots with Dying Light: The Beast

After several leaks, Techland officially announced Dying Light: The Beast at Gamescom. This is a new standalone game in the series, replacing the planned second expansion for Dying Light 2.

Dying Light: The Beast will bring about the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first game. Techland claims the game is around 20 hours long, with an all-new setting. Taking inspiration from Dying Light: The Following, this new game will feature co-op elements and vehicles.

The surprise twist here is that Dying Light: The Beast is replacing the planned second DLC for Dying Light 2. Those who bought the Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition will get a code for the new game free of charge.

While Dying Light 2 received plenty of praise, there is a large group of fans that preferred the first game. Techland looks to be capitalising on that with the return of the first game's main character. The new setting should be a breath of fresh air too, moving away from dense urban environments to a more rural setting.

KitGuru Says: Are you going to pick up Dying Light: The Beast when it drops? There is no release date yet but hopefully Techland will shed some light on that before the end of the year.
