G.Skill launches new DDR5-6400 memory kits supporting Intel XMP and AMD EXPO

G.Skill has released various new DDR5-6400 memory kits for Intel and AMD systems, boasting a CAS latency of just 30 clocks. This latency positions these kits as some of the faster kits with such a low latency.

The leap from DDR4 to DDR5 heralds faster data transfer rates but traditionally brings longer relative latencies. However, G.Skill's latest memory kits challenge this norm by introducing modules with exceptionally low latencies. With a CAS latency of 30, the absolute latency is a mere 9.375ns, 35% faster than the 14.375ns of DDR5-4800 JEDEC standard.

The DDR5-6400 CL30 modules have a 16GB capacity and will be available in 32GB dual-channel kits. While the manufacturer has not disclosed specific voltage details, the configured voltages of these modules are expected to exceed JEDEC's regulations.

G.Skill plans to make its DDR5-6400 modules (Trident Z5 Neo RGB and Trident Z5 Royal Neo) compatible with AMD systems featuring EXPO profiles. Intel-powered PCs will also get attention with XMP-ready modules like the Trident Z5, Trident Z5 RGB, and Trident Z5 Royal. The modules are expected to be particularly good for AMD's Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000-series CPUs, as they align with the CPUs' realistic DDR5 memory limit of 6000MT/s – 6400MT/s  (roughly the maximum speed at which AMD's Infinity Fabric can operate at with a 1:1 ratio).

Notably, G.Skill acknowledges that due to their non-standard nature, these modules may not be compatible with all systems. However, they are designed to perform optimally on high-end motherboards with well-cooled CPUs. These modules are expected to hit the market later in August 2024.

KitGuru says: If you're looking for the best memory kits to pair with your Ryzen 7000/9000 CPU, you should definitely consider these. There are not many DDR5-6400 alternatives running at such a low latency.
