Square Enix and Tencent reportedly working on Final Fantasy 14 Mobile

In recent years, Tencent has worked with some of the larger game publishers to bring major IP to mobile. The company is already working on a mobile version of Elden Ring for From Software, and next, the company may be bringing a version of Final Fantasy 14 to mobile devices.

According to leaker Kurakasis on exputer, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is in development as part of a joint effort between Square Enix and Tencent. This reportedly follows on from a cooperation agreement signed between the two companies all the way back in 2018.

In 2021, Square Enix's former president, Yosuke Matsuda, did publicly acknowledge this strategic alliance between the two companies but so far, no games have been officially announced. If this report is accurate, then Final Fantasy 14 Mobile would be the first game to emerge from this partnership.

While we would have balked at the idea of a massive MMO like Final Fantasy 14 coming to mobile five or six years ago, in recent years we've seen titles like Black Desert and even old-school Runescape successfully make the jump to mobile platforms. Like Black Desert, Final Fantasy 14 will no doubt play very differently on a phone rather than a console or PC.

KitGuru Says: I've never been huge on mobile gaming in general, although I did have a fling with Arknights and Genshin Impact back when those games came out. Would you be interested in a more accessible mobile version of Final Fantasy 14?
