AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 matches Ryzen 9 7950X in Cinebench 2024

GPD, a Chinese startup, introduced the Duo OLED at Computex this month, a ground-breaking laptop with two 13.3-inch AMOLED displays. Initially set to support up to the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, GPD has now confirmed a change in specifications, opting for the more powerful Ryzen 9 HX 370 APU. As it announced this change, it also shared some benchmark results of the upcoming processor.

This APU has 12x cores (4x Zen 5 + 8x Zen 5c) and Radeon 890M graphics, an integrated GPU with 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs. While AMD has yet to disclose detailed performance metrics, GPD (via HXL) boldly asserts that the Ryzen 9 HX 370 will rival the single-core Cinebench 2024 scores of the desktop Ryzen 9 7950X and outperform the Ryzen 9 5950X in multicore tests (2% faster).

Turning to graphics performance, GPD touts that the Radeon 890M surpasses the Radeon 780M by 36%. Notably, the Radeon 890M (54W TDP) achieves a TimeSpy performance score of 4221, marking a 31% improvement over the Radeon 780M operating at 72W TDP and a 51% boost over the Radeon 780M with the same TDP. Additionally, GPD promises that the 890M will outperform RTX 2050 laptop graphics (12% faster) and compete with the RTX 3050.

Although the improvement in graphics performance looks impressive, GPD claims that the uplift is partly attributable to higher memory standards, as Strix Point supports LPDDR5-7500 memory. AMD Ryzen AI APUs are expected to be released in mid July.

KitGuru says: The performance uplift on both CPU and GPU looks impressive. However, as with any laptop processor, cooling plays a big role, so we may see different results depending on the laptop model and its size.
