AMD confirms Ryzen 7000X3D will be faster in gaming than Ryzen 9000

If you've already got a Ryzen X3D processor, you may want to wait upgrade for a little longer. The first Ryzen 9000 series processors are launching in July, being the first desktop chips to feature the new Zen 5 CPU cores. However, current-gen Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs will remain faster in gaming, but we would expect that to change when the first Ryzen 9000 X3D processors arrive at a later date. 

AMD has been somewhat reserved about sharing gaming performance metrics to compare the upcoming Zen 5-based processors with AMD's 7000 X3D series. The 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been a popular choice among consumers for its exceptional gaming performance and energy efficiency, even outperforming Intel's Core i9 series in various gaming scenarios.

In an interview with Tom's Hardware, AMD confirmed that the Ryzen 7000 X3D series would still be the best gaming CPUs. He then added that comparing the Ryzen 7 7800X3D against the 9700X, the former is the better choice for gaming, even if only by a small margin.

To date, AMD has unveiled four new Ryzen CPUs for the AM5 socket, with more to come. However, specific details regarding the release date and pricing remain undisclosed. If the Ryzen 9000 CPUs are priced similarly to the initial launch of the 7000 series, their success might be challenged. For gamers considering a purchase, the 7800X3D processor still holds its ground as the leading gaming CPU, at least until the Ryzen 9800X3D arrives.
