Sony is working on a new Astro Bot game for PS5

Back in 2018, Sony unveiled Astro Bot, its new mascot character, who got off to a popular start after the release of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission for PlayStation VR. The character made a return in 2020 in Astro Playroom, a free technical showcase for PS5, giving new console buyers a quick way to see the capabilities of the new system and its DualSense controller. Now, a full new Astro game seems to be on the way.

The gaming community is abuzz with anticipation as rumours of a brand new Astro Bot game surface. According to the well-regarded leaker, billbil-kun, known for his accurate leaks of various PlayStation announcements, Sony and Team Asobi are working on a new Astro game.

Unlike Astro Bot: Resuce Mission, this new game will not be designed for VR, instead it will be a PS5 game, utilising the DualSense controller to differentiate & enhance gameplay, rather than virtual reality.

It would seem we will have multiple environments to explore in this new game too, including a new desert landscape. Astro is expected to be joined by at least one new character too.

The new Astro Bot game is expected to be announced at the next PlayStation Showcase event, which is expected to take place later this week, or in early June.

KitGuru Says: It is nice to see Sony reinvesting in games like this. The PS1 and PS2 eras were dominated by characters like Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Sly Cooper and others. Astro Bot seems like a nice call back to that older generation of games.
