Amazon is making a Tomb Raider TV series for Prime Video

After acquiring Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP, Embracer Group quickly entered a deal with Amazon to publish the next Tomb Raider game. We always assumed this was the first step towards Amazon gaining the TV rights for Prime Video but now, this has been confirmed. Today, Amazon officially announced that it has ordered a new series based on the Tomb Raider franchise.

The Tomb Raider series will be made in collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. The series will be written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who previously has credits on shows like Killing Eve, and films like James Bond: No Time to Die.

The Tomb Raider series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Speaking on the new series, Amazon Games VP, Christoph Hartmann, said: “With great IP, the possibilities are endless. The richness and depth of the fiction allows the Tomb Raider series from Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to tell separate stories about Lara Croft’s adventures. We’re honoured that Crystal Dynamics has entrusted Amazon with this iconic franchise, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us”.

Aside from this TV series, Amazon is also continuing to work with Crystal Dynamics on the next Tomb Raider game, which will release for consoles and PC. Currently, if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can dive into the most recent Tomb Raider trilogy for free via Prime Gaming.

KitGuru Says: Given how well the Fallout series turned out, we hope that Tomb Raider will get similar treatment.
