“Vast majority” of Private Division’s staff reportedly being laid off

2024 has been a terrible year for devs in the video games industry, with each new day spawning news of another round of lay-offs or studio closure. Following the report that Roll7 and Intercept Games are both being shut down by Take-Two, a new leak has revealed that the holding company is also laying off a “vast majority” of said studios’ publisher ‘Private Division’.

Founded in 2017 by Take-Two Interactive, Private Division is a publisher focused on funding and supporting various indie devs, games and studios. In the years since its founding, Private Division have published a whole host of well-loved titles including but not limited to:

  • Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition
  • The Outer Worlds
  • OlliOlli World
  • Rollerdrome
  • Penny's Big Breakaway

Unfortunately, as reported by Gamesindustry.biz, Private Division looks set to be gutted almost entirely, with sources telling the publication that a “vast majority” of its employees across Seattle, New York, Las Vegas and Munich have been let go – so all of its branches.

When asked for comment, Take-Two released a statement saying “On April 16th, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to identify efficiencies across its business and to enhance the Company's margin profile, while still investing for growth.”

They continued with more corporate nonsense: “As part of these efforts, the Company is rationalizing its pipeline and eliminating several projects in development and streamlining its organizational structure, which will eliminate headcount and reduce future hiring needs. The Company is not providing additional details on this program.”
