Apple Vision Pro orders reportedly cut in half as Apple reconsiders AR future

While the Apple Vision Pro got off to a hot start with surprisingly positive reviews, many have since commented about not having many reasons to use it since. On top of that, it would seem that sales have fallen flat, leading to reports of a cancelled follow-up headset, as well as slashed production orders for new stock of the Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro was never going to be a mass-market product thanks to its $3,500 price tag, but demand has dipped more than Apple seemingly anticipated. According to Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has recently cut production orders for the Vision Pro, dropping by as much as half, based on estimates.

Additionally, Apple is also reported to be reviewing its Vision Pro roadmap, ditching plans for a ‘cheaper' model in 2025. Augmented Reality is tech that Apple CEO, Tim Cook, was very enthusiastic about for a time, but has been less outspoken on since the Vision Pro launch.

There is no denying that Apple created an impressive piece of hardware and tackled many software problems too, creating one of the most user-friendly AR headsets around. However, at $3,500, the majority of consumers are priced out and it would seem developers aren't making content fast enough to keep current owners engaged with the ecosystem.

KitGuru Says: I'm sure Apple will continue working on this technology, but plans for new Vision Pro headsets in the immediate future may no longer come to fruition.
