Nvidia reportedly discontinuing GTX 16 series GPUs

There is chatter that Nvidia is in the process of discontinuing the GTX 16 series of GPUs, bringing an end for the Turing generation and possibly marking the end of GTX graphics cards, as Nvidia now places far more focus on its RTX line-up. 

Over at the Board Channels Forum (via VideoCardz), it has been stated that the GTX 16 series line-up will not be restocked. This news is unsurprising, as it has been rumoured since December 2023 that Nvidia was planning to discontinue the series in Q1 2024 due to its lack of ray tracing and DLSS acceleration functionality. The GTX 16 series may also be the last iteration of the GTX branding, as Nvidia has fully transitioned to the RTX branding.

The GTX 1650 and GTX 1630 were the last models to be launched on the market, following previous iterations such as the GTX 16 Super variants, which have also been discontinued. As a result, the RTX 20 series will now become the lowest tier in the Nvidia gaming GPU line-up. The new entry-level models are the RTX 2050 for the mobile segment and the RTX 3050 6GB for the desktop market.

Despite the discontinuation of the GTX 16 series, Nvidia will continue to release new drivers for these graphics cards. Currently, the company supports the GTX 700 series, indicating that it is unlikely that support for the GTX 16 series will be removed anytime soon. However, finding these cards at retailers will probably become increasingly difficult as final stocks deplete.
