No Man’s Sky is the gift that will seemingly forever keep on giving, with Hello Games announcing its latest major update. Nearly 8 years since its initial release, the latest free ‘Omega’ update brings with it an overhaul to expeditions, pirate freighters, new planetary missions and more.
While in no way the biggest update to No Man’s Sky, patch 4.5 ‘Omega’ still brings with it a notable number of changes, refinements and additions, including:
- Free-to-play trial (until the 19th of February)
- Expeditions overhaul
- New Omega Expedition
- New ‘Starborn’ Ship with unique functionality
- Board defeated pirate capital ships to take them over
- Revamped main mission with additional choices and enhanced visuals
- Quality-of-life improvements
- New unique jetpack
- Alien lifeforms offer rewards for a huge array of new planetary missions
As always, the full patch notes are extensive and include dozens or even hundreds of small tweaks/fixes. Regardless, it continues to be impressive just how long Hello Games have supported No Man’s Sky for – all for entirely free.
That said, with the team’s next major game [Light No Fire] set to arrive some time in the future, it will be interesting to see whether No Man’s Sky’s post-launch support slows down following its release.
We will have to wait and see, but either way, No Man’s Sky might go down as the best-supported game of all time when everything is said and done.
