MSI’s upcoming gaming handheld leaks ahead of CES

A few notable handheld PC competitors have popped up over the past year. In 2024, MSI will be joining them with the now leaked MSI Claw handheld.

Like the Steam Deck, MSI's handheld is all one solid piece, so the controllers aren't detachable. However, based on leaked marketing images, it does appear that the buttons light up, as well as the area around the joysticks.

What really sets this handheld apart from the likes of the Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion or ROG Ally is the hardware under the hood. While the latter three all use AMD hardware, MSI's handheld will utilise an Intel Meteor Lake processor. We speculated on the idea of Intel powered handhelds after seeing a Meteor Lake graphics preview at Intel Innovation last year. MSI's handheld seems to be the first.

While a proper announcement should be coming soon with CES just around the corner, Videocardz has already got hold of the technical spec sheet and some images have leaked from other sources too, like the tweet above.

The handheld will be powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H with an iGPU with 8 Xe-cores. It may also come with up to 32GB of RAM.

We don't yet have details on the display, pricing, expected performance or battery life. We also don't know the underlying operating system, but we would guess it will be Windows-based. We should learn more details at CES next week. An earlier teaser image posted by MSI suggests exactly that.

KitGuru Says: It will certainly be interesting to see how this matches up to the various AMD-powered handhelds already on the market.
