The Game Awards unveils this year’s nominees

Last week, Geoff Keighley announced plans to unveil the nominees for The Game Awards 2023 this week. Now, just as promised, we have the nominees for each category, with six games making the GOTY list, including Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

This year's GOTY list is fairly predictable, although it has been a highly competitive year. Notably, big releases like Final Fantasy 16 and Starfield did not make the final nominations list, but I wouldn't exactly knock any of the current nominees off the list either.

All of the games on this year's GOTY nominee list are also nominated for Best Game Direction, with the exception of Resident Evil 4. On the Best Narrative list, Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2 return, joined by Final Fantasy 16 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Moving on to indies, the following titles are nominated for best independent game of the year; Cocoon, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Sea of Stars and Viewfinder.

Looking ahead to 2024, the following titles are nominated for the ‘Most Anticipated' award; Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Hades II, Star Wars Outlaws and Tekken 8.

As always, while the nominees for The Game Awards are decided by a panel of industry folk, fans do get a vote on the final winners. There are plenty of categories to choose from, far more than we've covered here, and voting is now open, so if you want to see your favourite game get a win at this year's TGAs, then be sure to get your votes in.
