Pete Hines is leaving Bethesda after 24 year career

When we think of Bethesda and past Bethesda game launches, two names immediately spring to mind, Todd Howard and Pete Hines. Just six weeks on from the launch of the studio's latest game, Starfield, Hines has now announced that he is retiring.

Pete Hines joined Bethesda back in 1999, working as the SVP of marketing, before being promoted to Head of Publishing in 2022. Now, after a nearly 25-year-long career at Bethesda, Hines is officially retiring.

In his announcement post, Hines said: “After 24 years, I have decided my time at Bethesda Softworks has come to an end. I am retiring and will begin an exciting new chapter of my life exploring interests and passions, donating my time where I can, and taking more time to enjoy life. This was not a decision I came to easily or quickly, but after an amazing career, culminating in the incredible launch of Starfield, it feels like the time is right.”

While Hines is retiring from the games industry, he says that he will “never stop being part” of the community, thanking the fans who supported the studio along the way, right up to the release of the studio's latest RPG, Starfield.
